Daily Dose Pick: Brandon Flowers

While his band takes a much-needed break, Killers frontman Brandon Flowers is striking out on his own, paying tribute to his hometown of Las Vegas with debut solo album Flamingo.

Known for his arena-sized vocals, Flowers doesn’t dial things back here, working with a trio of top-tier producers (Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois, and Brendan O’Brien) to keep things epic, layered, and moving. The singer’s much harped-on love of Springsteen also plays a major role, in his approach to both songwriting and storytelling.

Visit Brandon Flowers’ official website, become a fan on Facebook, listen to an NPR interview, stop by his MySpace page, and buy the album.

Doug has a valid point. I'm not a fan of The Killers, but I listened to about half of this album and it is very good, and a fan of The Killers or Springsteen (this sounds more like Springsteen than anyone else who is compared to Springsteen) might even call the album great (or in Doug's case "fantastic"). It is too cheesy for my tastes, and Flowers is too lacking in subtlety and overly fond of cliches, but that is true of Springsteen too and that probably accounts for Flowers' success... The album is easily way more engaging than The Killers' recent releases.

Yup, because it's a fantastic record. And the monthly preview was one person's opinion. A lot of great releases were left out, as you can see from my comment below that post. Have you actually listened to this album?

really? out of all the albums out this month (that flavorwire itself previewed), you choose this? really?!
