Michael Showalter Reveals All in Our Interactive Interview

Comedian Michael Showalter has done it all. He’s been a member of one of the most-loved comedy troupes of all time (The State); written, directed, and starred in movies like Wet Hot American Summer and The Baxter; released a hilarious album — and now he’s written a book too.

In our exclusive Interactive Interview — where you ask the questions — he talks about his literary inspirations, the possibility of sequels and reunions for some of his projects, and the bizarre rumor that he has a rivalry with fellow comedy sensation Eugene Mirman. Plus, he tells us his real name.

Mr. Funny Pants is a sidesplitting meta-memoir, a book about writing a book that also doubles as an absurd guide to life. It puts on the page what fans of Showalter’s work in film, television, and on stage have embraced for years — his surreal, self-referential, goofball wit and sense of humor.

Mr. Showalter, My best friend's last name is Wolter. Due to my inappropriate love for both of you, I change her surname to Showalter (or LOLter because I'm a hilarious member of Gen Y) on most occasions. Did you ever have any nicknames or surname-puns as a kid? Also, thank you for your delivery of the line "We don't have...this, money" on Stella. My room mates and I used it in a conversation with our landlord once. It was terrific and I thank you.
