Some possible exciting news for fans of the incredibly addictive Hunger Games series: According to Entertainment Weekly a source at Lionsgate has confirmed that there are still no frontrunners for the part of Katniss Everdeen in its forthcoming film adaptation. What makes this so interesting? Approximately 30 actresses have already tried out for the role — including well-known young Hollywood types like Jennifer Lawrence, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Chloë Moretz, Emma Roberts, Saoirse Ronan, and Emily Browning. Frankly, we’re wondering if it wouldn’t be a better idea to go with an unknown — it certainly seemed to work for the Coen Brothers with True Grit. It would also be great to see more non-white young actresses in the running; while the books never really define her racial background, Katniss is described as having black hair and olive skin. She’s also only 16 when the books begin, which would rule out many of the haggard old ladies above. Tell us in the comments: Who would you like to see take on this role?
