Sadly not as clever as they seem to think they are. Nor entirely an original idea. I bought a book of postcards of 'fake' Penguin covers ten years ago (whatever happened to it) which bad memory convinces me were funnier than these. Good and original , perhaps. Bug, as Dr Johnson had it, the parts that are good are not original and the parts that are original are big good. Or at least not THAT good.

but these were lines from my personal ads decades ago!

Harland also wrote rather a great book about 10 years ago about a mysterious Bowie impersonator in a rough Northern town in the '70's, called Slow down Arthur, Stick to Thirty. He's mates with Jarvis Cocker too. He has it all. http://www.amazon.com/Slow-Down-Arthur-Stick-Thirty/dp/1841152838/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1300125511&sr=8-2

I feel like I SHOULD like these, and yet they leave me flat.

Adam - Classic Penguins for sure. Different layout...well thats the point.

sorry to snark - they're not Penguin Classics, they're classic Penguins (i.e. the original Allen Lane/Edward Young design from the 1930s). Penguin Classics have always had a different layout.

Tremendo titulo, la cago !
