A Brief Survey of Blatantly Phallic and Vaginal Art [NSFW]

Herman Makkink’s kinetic sculpture Rocking Machine became one of Stanley Kubrick’s most iconic film props when Alex used it as a murder weapon in A Clockwork Orange. With that particularly psychotic display of “ultraviolence,” the sculpture became a bit less playful and a lot more aggressive.

Sadly and Astonishingly you have ommited H.R GIGER'S .."Penis Landscape"!!! it is tha most classic example of this genre and was banned when in the early '80's The Dead Kennedys included a poster of it as a give away with the album "Frankenchrist"..(a classic, essential seminal piece of American/socio-political Hardcore punk. For those who have not seen it, it can be viewed through any of Giger's sites...and is in his classsic Black-grey-white bio-mechanical site

Don't forget Annie Sprinkle who put her cervix on view as art. And of course Karen Findlay who would pull things out of her vagina during her performances.....

Kudos to Dorrie Lane for attempting to elevate the beauty of the female genitalia. To me, it is a flower that is either budding or wilting; like a person constantly in transition. Why should I eschew such an essential part of my identity? I celebrate the attempt to make a part called (by an older generation) 'private' into public (and that's not pubic.)

Bitter some hutch? tired of being passed over? Try Joy, compassion, encouragement, try doing something you dont like. Besides, art is just a way of doing things, that's all.

love it! Except the vagina on wheels...that one is pretty gross

Some of it, very creative but all of it brought up an emotional reaction, which in my opinion, is great art. As the artist that created the Wondrous Vulva Puppet, I've tried to raise a level of acceptance towards the vulva.

the counterpart to "phallic" is not "vaginal" it's "yonic"

It is truly a classy art of creativity where there is no banal .. Please accept my greetings and friendly ..

Ugh! Only made it through number 4… Don’t like these at all… Probably these pieces work very well without sharing each other’s context… But when you look at them one after the other like this… is just too much…

As some of you may recall,"ytmnd", has had a similar wall on display since 2007. http://vaginawall.ytmnd.com/ OK, so they´re not plaster casts, but they´re, well, livelier.

I just feel asleep reading your comments. sorry.

Where are the post Cards?

Hey Starsky, you need to talk Hutch off the ledge. He's talking crazy shit that no one understands . . . But what of Duchamp's "etant donnes", no mention at all? And, c'mon FP, the Courbet makes the Currin look sick - eschew the razor and give us the real deal.

yeah but your family member is cooler than you. and that's what matters!

pft... make it so each slide can be commented on, not show all comments on every slide... Lets try this a different way Judgment of each "art" next to appropriate number: 1. Vaguely art though anyone could do and has thought of... Not impressed. 2. Although from a rather abstract movie, tame but could be called modern semi-art. 3. That's not art, that's someone who likes to think they are an artist and started sculpting a body them said "hey, lets twist it and add odd nubbys on top and call it art" My son makes this crap all day long with play doh. Wanna buy one for $10,000? 4. Seems some thought may have went in to the penii, but wtf is the second blob... 5. Not art... Destruction of property... Hope the ass went to jail. 6. A bit of art due to the painting on the object... 7. Theatrical art... 8. Art.... Effort, skill and thought, what many abstract artist can not do, wish they could do and make things like numbers 1 and 3. 9. This is a abstract art from someone who actually has skill... Interesting and took some real thought and effort. THIS was done by an abstract artist that should be called an artist. 10. Same as 9 11. Same as 9 12. And here we are, the portrait of an "abstract artist". Probably produces crap like 1 and 3 and thinks it's art and runs around on a moped wearing a beret and drinking double latte's with extra foam. Craping on a cross of jesus, while laying it between the breast of a female mannequin is not art. Cusch concpets are thought of from talentless individuals who lack most likely the basic skill of producing something pleasant, thoughtful or truly shocking to look at. Untalented "artists" tend to have lil hanger ons wearing the lil french berets hanging out in Starbucks in New York... Start calling art when its actually art... These "abstract artists" are just bums who dont wanna have a 9-5... have a family member like that... Bleh....

I shall go through each of the 12 and post my comments: This, though of no point I would vaguely call art... Sorta

that's really not vey nice
