Liberace (1919–1987)

This famed pianist might be remembered for his over-the-top outfits and piano-shaped swimming pool, but at one point Wladziu Valentino Liberace was the highest paid entertainer in the world, in spite of what certain critics — who found his act too gimmicky, and his numerous promotional tie-ins, gauche — thought. As he once famously wrote: “Thank you for your very amusing review. After reading it, in fact, my brother George and I laughed all the way to the bank.”
