We know that the artists weren’t speaking to the gay marriage ban when they created this piece called “Bird in Space”, but posting something lovely seems like the only way to respond to news that makes us feel so dark.
According to the Los Angeles Times an estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who wed in California during the last 4 1/2 months — including ELLEN DEGENERES and PORTIA DE ROSSI — have to figure out what that means for them. Bans also won in Florida and Arizona.
We know most of the the country is walking around on an Obama high today and patting ourselves on the back for how far we’ve come, but did this news put a damper on things for anyone else?

The great majority of age 19-29 voters turned out in droves,
but seem to have forgotten to make it past the presidential line…
I for one am quite disappointed. Let those that have been married in the past
few months sue the pants off the state then, that’s how the
ACLU, and NAACP gets things done.
Yes, I am crushed and wondered if anyone else in NYC had noticed the news. What really sucks is that, according to Yahoo news, 7/10 black voters voted against gay marriage–far more than any other group. That was the tipping point. C’mon, Obama, time to change your position on gay marriage.
Today I’m feeling much prouder to be American, and much less proud to be Californian. Even more frustrating is that every county in the Bay Area (save one) voted down Prop 8. If only the Bay Area could secede…
i finally stop voting via absentee (i’m from the bay area) and this is what happens! definitely tempers my jubilation over promises of “hope” and “change.”
