Awww. How cute. In an-almost-like grandma-but-not-quite sense of the expression. Sure the good 'ole days were at a pace that allowed one to "savor" the emotional response in a comfortable sense. But the author, likely not a participant in a modern-day heart-racing email-enabled romance, likely has not yet experienced our contemporary alternative. The past is beautiful, and as a sentimentalist, I can't quite let it go. But it is gone...and the present can be equally as enriching and emotionally rich. Plus we get more of it!

Ben Greenman is awesome. His book "Superbad" is a great introduction to his work. (And no, it's not related to the movie that came out last year. It's superbetter.)

I hear what you're saying about email and none of it's untrue, but email has also reintroduced the written word into day-to-day culture. Before email started entering the mainstream in the late 90s, most of the people I knew had completely lost touch with writing anything. What's more impersonal and uninspired than the average phone conversation? Of the imposing monologue of a voicemail - the laziest, most time consuming and disposable form of human communication? Email and texting have brought back the written word on a massive scale. No looking back... besides, at this point, it could be hard to relearn how to use a pen.
