Elliott Smith’s high school band is way better than your high school band. Well, maybe that’s a given. By now, any die hard Elliott Smith fans have probably heard his version of “The Real Estate,” originally written with his high school band Stranger than Fiction, re-recorded in 1996 (during his Either/Or recording days) and recently released on the homeless youth benefit compilation Live From Nowhere Near You. But now we’re blessed with another treat — the original version of “The Real Estate” as recorded by Stranger than Fiction and released on tape (remember tapes?). The song can only be downloaded by finding a secret code in the Live From Nowhere Near You album artwork, and you’ll also be rewarded for your purchase with a digital version of the original tape’s cover art. Not sure yet? Head over to Pitchfork to listen to the track, and let us know what you think.
