Read a Sweet Postcard from Jimi Hendrix to His Dad

“I think things are getting a little Better” — that’s the closing line of a postcard penned by Jimi Hendrix to his dad back in October of 1966. While he didn’t realize it at the time, Jimi (who had only recently changed the spelling of his name from “Jimmy”) was certainly understating things. Over the next few months his recently formed band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, would have a hit single with “Hey Joe.” The following year they’d go on to release Are You Experienced, a debut album that many still consider one of the greatest records of all time. Then, there was his breakthrough performance at the Monterey Pop Festival, now the stuff of music legend. It kind of makes you realize how quickly fortunes can change in the creative world, doesn’t it?
