Today at Flavorpill, we felt nostalgic thanks to Videogum’s roundup of the best viral videos of 2011, a montage which features appearances by favorites like “Princess Girls Sing Nicki Minaj,” “Michele Bachmann Girls,” and “Goth Dudes Dancing To ‘Vogue.’” We were shocked by how nasty ancient graffiti could be. We took the scales of income walking tour of Manhattan, but ran out of energy before we could make our way to the land of the top 0.1 percent. We called the emergency Hall and Oates hotline. We learned from Google Maps that one does not simply walk into Modor. We couldn’t decide which sitcom DJ from our childhood was the best. We bookmarked Matisyahu’s recipes for latkes and vegan jelly doughnuts. We were amused to hear that the residents of Juzcar, a small town in Spain painted blue in order to promote The Smurfs movie, have decided to keep it that way. We were glad never to have experienced the Nerf gun solution for a loose tooth. We discovered a clever new iPad app that helps you work through all kinds of tricky situations. And finally, we were impressed by all of the amazing shots in Reuters’ roundup of its best photos of 2011, as well as photographers’ behind-the-scenes accounts of capturing each of the images.
