And here we thought that it couldn’t get any weirder than last year’s Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration album Lulu. But if a new Hulk Hogan interview in UK tabloid The Sun is to be believed (and yes, we’ll be the first to admit that that’s a pretty big if), then the famed-wrestler-turned-reality-TV-star could have been Metallica’s bassist way back in the day. “I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler,” he explained. “I played bass guitar. I was big pals with Lars Ulrich and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days but it didn’t work out.” Can you imagine these pop culture juggernauts of sweat-drenched machismo colliding? Actually, given their shared love for pyrotechnics, we kind of can. [via NME]
