A Photographer Learns to Love Baltimore

Forget planking or owling. Photographer/amateur contortionist Sam Schubert, whose work we just spotted over on booooooom, literally melds her body to the urban landscape in the playful self-portrait series Learning To Love The State I Am In. “Having spent my childhood amidst the dense and beautiful woods of upstate New York, I developed a keen interest in being part of and observing the natural environment and the unconscious repetition that surrounds oneself,” she explains in her artist statement. “As a stranger to the urban environment of Baltimore, I focus on integrating oneself into the materials and environments found around the city.” Click through to see shots of Schubert embracing buildings’ facades, draping herself over road blockers, and squeezing in between dumpsters.
