The Best Pop-Culture ‘Game of Thrones’ Mash-Ups

Yesterday brought us George R.R. Martin fans a little gift: some exciting new footage from the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. But with the premiere still over a month away, we thought you could probably use something more to hold you over until the new episodes begin and winter finally comes. Like Ben Wyatt in Parks and Recreation claimed, the show really is a “crossover hit,” and appearing in dozens of hilarious online mash-ups with other pop-culture genres and franchises. We’ve compiled some of the best for diehard fans after the jump. If you found one that we missed, let us know in the comments!

A Goonies Game of Thrones

Rym DeCoster of the Geeknights Podcast noticed a similarity between Tyrion’s now-infamous trial at the Eyrie and Chunk’s confession to the Fratellis in The Goonies. Naturally, the only thing to do was put them together in this hysterical clip.

Arrested Westeros

Curated by Emily Hummel, this blog juxtaposes scenes from Game of Thrones with dialogue from the critically acclaimed Arrested Development. The results are bound to make you laugh out loud.

Game of Throneopoly

The folks over at i09 put together an amazing A Song of Ice and Fire-inspired Monopoly game that you could probably print out and play if you had a mind to. Out favorite space on the board? The “Go” space, which has been replaced with the phrase “A Lannister Always Pays His Debts.”

“Damn It Feels Good to be a Lannister”

Speaking of a Lannister always paying his debts, this parody of Geto Boys’ “Damn it Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” by LessTalkMoreMonkey is pretty priceless — especially when Jaime raps that “A real high class lord wears a lion crest/a real high class lord makin love to his twin/cuz real high class lords choose incest.”

Game of Thrones RPG

If you ever played a Super Nintendo Final Fantasy game in your youth, then this short video by College Humor should trigger some nostalgic memories for you.

Storm of Swansons

Inspired by Arrested Westeros, this Tumblr puts together lines from Parks and Recreation with scenes in Game of Thrones. Given Ben Wyatt’s aforementioned penchant for the program, we think the townfolk in Pawnee would be very flattered.

HBO vs. Kanye West and Jay-Z — “Watch the Game of Thrones”

For this highly replayable track, up-and-coming Swedish producer Johan Wedel blended sounds from both Game of Thrones and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaborative album, Watch the Throne. We dare you to listen to it just once.

One and a Half Men

In this video, the people at Vulture imagined what it would be like if Game of Thrones were a buddy comedy that focused solely on Tyrion Lannister and Bronn. Given Peter Dinklage’s recent popularity, we bet this version would still be a hit.

Jason Yang and Roger Lima Theme Cover Mash-Up

Reimagined covers of TV theme songs are huge on YouTube, and both violinist Jason Yang and guitarist Roger Lima have two of the most popular and well-regarded music channels because of their covers of the Game of Thrones theme music. Director Paolo Dy thought to edit the two together into an epic powerhouse of electric sounds.

Game of Thrones of Muppets

Doesn’t thinking about all the violence, nudity, incest, and dragons in Game of Thrones remind you of the Muppets? No? Well, blending the two together seemed to make sense for illustrator Yehudi Mercado. We wouldn’t show these to the kids, though — not because they’re graphic, but because we wouldn’t want to have to explain what happens to Kermit at the end of the first season.

Game of Thrones meets The Simpsons

Thanks to a recent episode about Crusty the Clown trying to get his own show on “HBOTime,” we got a quick look at what a Simpsonized version of Game of Thrones would look like. Who do you think would win in a fight: Grey Wind or Santa’s Little Helper?
