Guillermo Del Toro continues to prove he’s one of the busiest filmmakers in the biz. THR is reporting that the Devil’s Backbone director is set to helm a retelling of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. The film will be written by Bridget Jones’ Diary scribe Andrew Davies. Harry Potter actress Emma Watson was cast last summer in the Warner Bros. project, but it was uncertain if Del Toro would take on a producer role — a behind the scenes approach he’s been focusing on lately, apart from the upcoming sci-fi actioner Pacific Rim — instead of stepping behind the camera. We’re not sure what won him over — and it certainly isn’t due to a lack of creative works in the making — but if anyone seems fitting for a fairy tale it’s Del Toro (see: Pan’s Labyrinth). We were already excited to find out that French filmmaker Christophe Gans would be reteaming with Brotherhood of the Wolf star Vincent Cassel for his take on Beauty and the Beast — showing a “completely new visual universe” from the moviemaker. Now it looks like we’ll have all the “tale as old as time” we can stand. With Gans film, a 3D re-release of the Disney version, and an upcoming CW reboot, is there room for more Beauty or Beast?
