Just a few months ago, the trailer broke for Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod’s Bel Ami — an adaptation of the 19th-century Guy de Maupassant’s novel of the same name. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival last month with mixed reviews. Now, EW has reported that foreign and indie niche distributor Magnolia has acquired the period drama, which is set for a June 8 release. The Twilight star trades his romantic vampire for a sleazier character — an ex-soldier who sleeps his way through 1890’s Paris and rises to power by seducing the female social elite. The English actor appears alongside Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Christina Ricci for the sexy story — which has been described by Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles as a “well-crafted, appealing film with a terrific ensemble cast.” Watch the trailer past the break, and let us know if you’ll be indulging in a little international hedonism this summer.
