ABC has announced that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will host the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, which take place September 23rd at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, news that we think bodes extremely well for the sometimes boring show — especially if he can find a way to work in some disappointed children or celebrities who have been bullied on Twitter into his act.
“I hope to be able to do for the Emmys this year what Eddie Murphy did for the Oscars,” Kimmel — who has hosted the Espy Awards and the American Music Awards before — quipped in a statement. What do you think? Will he do a better job than last year’s less than memorable host, Jane Lynch? Or be able to top Jimmy Fallon’s opening number from 2010? Or pull off a white tux like Neil Patrick Harris did back in 2009? At least he can take solace in the fact that no matter what goes down, it can’t be any worse than that the five-host trainwreck of 2008. [via Vulture]
