In an economy like ours, just about every college major can seem pointless. But which ones are actually most likely to doom a graduate to failure? With the help of some data from Georgetown University and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Daily Beast has compiled a list of the 13 most useless fields of study, taking into account such factors as employment rates, earnings, and projected job growth through 2020. And guess what? Those of us with expertise in the arts and humanities lose again, with fine arts majors topping the list, followed by drama; film, video, and photography; commercial art; and architecture students rounding out the top five. Click here to see whether your field ranks in the top 13, and if you’re a business or engineering type who can’t muster any sympathy for the creative class and their “fun” majors, be sure to check out this excellent Salon piece on that very topic.
