Fox Spoofs ‘The Voice’ with Celebrity Dating Show

If you’ve been watching NBC’s reality talent competition The Voice starring aw-shucks country star Blake Shelton, diva Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, and cat lover Cee Lo Green as the show’s judges, then you may be interested in an upcoming Fox series called The Choice. In what feels like a spoof on the singing show, but is probably just Fox being Fox, the six-episode series plans on featuring eligible celebs (Deadline advises that initially they’ll all be men with a women’s version planned for the future) and a group of singles. Like The Voice, it will be filmed in front of a live audience and feature the bachelors in rotating chairs that will turn around once they choose a potential partner. They won’t be able to see the women, just hear them and listen to stories about their life and what their turn-ons and turn-offs are — similar to old school game show The Dating Game. “If more than one celebrity pulls the handle, they must battle it out until the sexy single chooses a celebrity. Once each bachelor has his three hotties, the teams enter the ‘Speed Choice’ round, where each woman has only 15 seconds to convince her celebrity to pick her for the final round.” The whole thing will be emceed by So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley. The Choice premieres on June 7. Bizarre summer hit or super sad parody gone wrong?
