Today we’re checking out the trailer for An Education, an upcoming period drama about a British schoolgirl (dead ringer for Audrey Hepburn Carey Mulligan) whose Oxford-bound future is thrown for a loop when she meets an older man. The preview is lush — ’50s costumes! London! Paris! Peter Sarsgaard! — and kind of reminds us of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, which is not a reference we can make often.
Directed by Lone Scherfig, written by novelist Nick Hornby and having premiered at this year’s Sundance, the film’s certainly got a pedigree (if not a very compelling title). Carey Mulligan, the star, looks like she has “next big thing” potential, even if her age in comparison to Sarsgaard is a little…questionable. Well, at least they didn’t cast Emma Watson.
Check out the trailer for yourself below, and tell us what you think.

now THIS is one i'm very excited for. hooray for nick hornby. everyone looks great in it. and yes, very ms jean brodie! the age difference btwn sarsgaard & mulligan, however, seems part of the plot and entirely intentional.
