Is Morrissey Retiring in Two Years?

Morrissey has given us some wonderful music over the course of his 30-year career, both with The Smiths and on his own. But lately, we’ve read more about him flipping out onstage and making alarming, occasionally racist statements to the press than commentary on his work. But that’s not why 53-year-old Morrissey confirmed to the Malaysian website JuiceOnline that he can’t imagine performing past 55. “I’ve aged a lot recently, which is bit distressing for me, as it must be for everyone. The body changes shape and there’s nothing you can do about it,” he said, continuing in typical Morrissey fashion: “Do I continue as a modern day Andy Williams? I take one hour at a time. We will all probably be blown up by the Syrian government soon, anyway, so it hardly matters in the great scheme of things [laughs].” You can read the rest of the interview, which includes as many withering Moz-isms and political potshots as you might hope (or fear?), here. Be sure to let us know in the comments whether you think the time has come for the Morrissey to pack it in. [via Pitchfork]
