We’ll be the first to admit that multiple-exposure photographs can feel a bit gimmicky. But lately it seems like there’s an abundance of excellent examples using the technique floating around. Take the work of Christoffer Relander, a self-taught photographer from Finland spotted by Colossal who shoots haunting black and white portraits of people and animals that are intermixed with natural landscapes. The resulting images are not only incredibly pretty to look at, but also seem to hint at something essential in each of his Nordic subjects. Click through to see if you agree.
