Elisabeth Moss Discusses Her Rumored Departure from ‘Mad Men’

Earlier this month, an offhand remark that Mad Men’s Jared Price made during an interview left us worried that Peggy’s recent exit from Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce could possibly signal the end of Elisabeth Moss’ time on the show — which would be a horrible thing! We wondered if Matt Weiner had lost his mind. Then that lovely movie theater run-in between Peggy and Don in the season finale helped put our minds at ease; even if she’s no longer at the agency, it looks as if Peggy will remain a significant figure in the Mad Men universe because of their connection. A new GQ interview with Moss provides further confirmation of this fact.

“Well, you can draw your own conclusions from my movements in the world at some point,” she told them when asked about Season 6. “If I’m in LA shooting Mad Men, then I guess they’re not letting me go! Honestly, the really cool thing that happened since Jared said that thing in the article, is that people have been really upset about Peggy leaving. Again, maybe it’s me being naïve, but I didn’t anticipate that. It’s incredibly flattering! Like the worst thing that could happen is that nobody would care, you know?”

Moss also discussed filming her goodbye with Don, which she says was her favorite scene of the season, and one of her favorites of the series to-date. “That was one of those things where you just — we didn’t really talk about it, Jon and I,” Moss explained. “We didn’t need to. We both knew what that scene was, and what those moments were, and that was it. We didn’t do a lot of takes. It just is one of those things that, you don’t want to mess with it too much. I don’t want to sound too precious about it, but it was very emotional for both of us, because regardless of anything, it’s the closing of a chapter.”
