“What would happen to our fables if they were flesh and blood and confronted with the frenetic and excessive world of fame?” The La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles has your answer. Mexican artist Rodolfo Loaiza reimagines fairy tale heroines and villains as distressed stars of today’s tabloids… or vice versa. On view through September 2nd, Disasterland features one princess’ post-breakdown head shave. There’s also the Evil Queen nasally consuming narcotics and Jafar and Captain Hook caught in a passionate embrace. Oh what are they doing to our childhood! It’s a sad scene. But don’t worry, it’s not all dark. Wouldn’t today’s Cinderella want to wear a meat dress to the ball? Couldn’t you picture Alice rocking a Kurt Cobain tee in Wonderland?
