Millionaire acidheads, get your bidding arms ready. On October 10th in San Francisco, Bonhams will auction off Harvard LSD researcher and counterculture hero Timothy Leary’s The Periodic Table of Energy, which is described as exploring “correspondences among the Periodic Table of Elements, the Neurogenetic Theory of Evolution, the Tarot, the I Ching, [and] the Zodiac.” The 203-page typewritten and illustrated manuscript dates from his time as an inmate at a California state prison in 1974. Inspired by his confinement, Leary wrote that the work “is designed to free all life forms. It is an escape note. A survival manual explaining how to decode the basic blueprints which guide the evolutionary journey.” The Periodic Table of Energy is expected to fetch $30,000 to $50,000 at auction — making it a far more valuable relic of the ’60s than that one Grateful Dead T-shirt your dad keeps showing you as proof that he used to be cool.
