Tony Soprano is back on the HBO block — and he’s a lawyer now! Deadline reports that James Gandolfini is set to star in the pilot for Criminal Justice, an adaptation of the BBC crime drama of the same name. In each of two five-episode seasons, the British series followed a person charged with murder through their imprisonment and trial. The American version finds Gandolfini playing Jack Stone, the kind of attorney who hangs out at the jailhouse recruiting newly arrested clients. Rizwan Ahmed co-stars as the accused murderer, Naz. Aside from Gandolfini’s return to HBO, we’re excited about the team that created the pilot, Schindler’s List and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo writer Steven Zaillian and Richard Price, the acclaimed novelist/screenwriter who also contributed to The Wire.
