At this point in the presidential race, we’re mostly sick of political ads of all stripes. After all, they’re usually a pretty lame affair, if not saccharine or vicious, then so hokey you can’t take them seriously. But this one you should watch. Steve Martin, posing as a “home crafts expert,” teaches us how to make the perfect wadded up ball of paper to “play with around the house,” while silently endorsing his friend Bob Kerrey for Nebraska Senator. The result is irrepressibly charming and genuine, and a satisfying meta-comment on the state of political ads in the process. If we lived in Nebraska, we’d totally vote for this guy.
