Delaney Allen’s Mysterious, Shrouded Self-Portraits

What makes a portrait? Not necessarily a photograph of someone’s face, but an evocation of their nature, a careful presentation of some aspect of truth hidden in everyday life. Delaney Allen’s strange, shrouded self-portraits, which we recently spotted over at Trendland, reveal and conceal in equal measure. His face may be swaddled in cloth or, in his more whimsical photographs, hidden behind bananas or bubblegum, but the images still seem innately personal, visons of something not quite accessible by normal light. Click through to see the masked man in his many forms, and then head on over to Allen’s Tumblr for more.
