The 12 Most Unnecessary Pumpkin-Flavored Products

Fall is in the air, and that means, once again, it’s that time of year when nothing’s safe from being pumpkinized. This year, the endless flurry of pumpkin- and pumpkin-spice-flavored goods and services seems to have gotten a bit out of hand. The popularity of Starbucks’ autumnally emblematic Pumpkin Spice Latte has ushered in an anything-goes mentality among marketing strategists, leading some to compare the newfound ubiquity of pumpkin to bacon, others to remind us of the oft-forgotten history of the pumpkin-spice trade, and yet other rabid partisans to come to its defense.

But whether we actually like pumpkin or we’re simply addicted to corn syrup and pumpkin pie spice seems beside the point; there are certain things that are just better off free from pumpkin tyranny. We’ve put together a list of some of the stranger manifestations of the pumpkin craze we’ve seen this season. Stock up while these last, because it’s only a matter of time before all the candy canes and “holiday spice” products take over.

The BK Pumpkin

Laughing Squid found these seasonal monstrosities from Burger King Japan, which include the “Pumpkin Bomb”: a burger topped with lettuce, bacon, creamy nut sauce, and ten slices of fried kabocha.

Yeah, I gotta say, I love pumpkin in all its forms, so I'm down with pretty much all these things. And pumpkin is good for dogs, which is probably why the treats.

yeah, i'm thinking you totally struck out with this. almost every product sounds good, and none of them offend.

I don't know, I bet the pasta could be pretty good. At our grocery store we get fresh pumpkin ravioli (ravioli filled with pumpkin instead of meat) and although it sounds weird, it's actually delicious. We usually make it with broccoli, fried tofu and pesto. Really really good.

If the Silk soymilk is like their nog, I'm betting it's awesome. Still seems a bit redundant though. The others just seem weird imo.

Actually, the pumpkin spice silk is fantastic. I highly recommend it in coffee. My roommate, who can drink cow's milk btw, always takes some when I have it.

Two of these make sense. Dogs love pumpkin and its good for their stomachs. And pumpkin pop tarts make sense too, i mean pumpkin muffins and pumpkin bread are delicious, right?

As an Australian all of this is so bizarre to me. Pumpkin is a savoury only food over here, so that burger sounds fine. We put it on pizza and in pasta and eat it roasted, but almost never sweet (apart from occasionally pumpkin scones). I wish I could try some of these things, like the lattes, they sound delicious.
