John Cusack Is Developing a Biopic About Rush Limbaugh

Just what are you up to now, Lloyd Dobler? According to the AP, John Cusack is developing a film about right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh, set to go into production next year. The movie, which has a working title of Rush, is being produced by Cusack’s production company New Crime Productions, and would star Cusack in the title role. Betty Thomas, who also helmed the 1997 Howard Stern biopic Private Parts, is slated to direct. But why this movie? Even setting aside politics (Cusack is solidly liberal and once called the Bush administration’s worldview ”depressing, corrupt, unlawful, and tragically absurd”), the actor is a handsome, slender 46-year old man. Limbaugh is, well, not. Also, we’re not sold that the pundit really deserves a biopic, given everything he’s said in the past, um, decade. What do you think of this move, dear readers? [via THR]

John Cusack is still around?

Rush, possessing a sense of humor, will surely get a big kick out of this and laugh it off. However, the first time he says anything negative about Cusack, we'll get the typical leftist crap about how there's a chill wind blowing against free speech and how Cusack is oh-so-brave for taking on such a powerful subject. Surely an Oscar won't be far behind.

I dunno, maybe this might answer the key question about Limbaugh: how can a human being end up metamorphosing into an actual piece of shit?

Simply put, Rush Limbaugh is one of the most influential persons of he last 25 years, year after year. He succeeded in what, at the time, was a dead (or minimally, dying) format taking something as mundane and boring as political and social philosophy and making in interesting and entertaining. Whether it be SuperSoakers at the 1992 DNC convention, or, his unapologetic Apple fanboisism. But would anyone go see this in the theater? General population, probably not. Netflix or Hulu (Plus), maybe.

Cusack has really trashed a good career in pursuit of his obsessions. He has entered the territory of performers who've alienated a major portion of the audience by making it impossible to see them without recalling the bizarre things they say at any opportunity.

I'm trying to imagine how this could be interesting and I just can't. If it is nothing but poli-lib-pron then it will be dull. I think about the more recent politically driven movies that worked like Frost/Nixon, Primary Colors and even Wag the Dog and Bullworth, I have a hard time seeing this matching any of those. The question is why do it? What is the story arc and where does the tension come from? Does it focus on a Rush vs. Clinton period and roll in the impeachment? I guess we'll see.

I would recommend that Mr. Cusack use Zev Chafets warts and all Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One as his source material. Perhaps Mr. Cusack will listen to Rush for the recommended six weeks? Or spend some time with Rush? Of course he'll just use press releases from Media Matters.

Proof that Limbaugh lives in Cusack's head twenty-four hours a day. The one thing the Cusacks of the world can't tolerate is political dissent. Limbaugh's done nothing but talk. A biopic about Tyrone Woods? Lt. Col. Anthony Henderson? Master-at-Arms Second Class Michael A Monsoor? Sergeant David Bellavia? Nope. Rush Limbaugh. The good news is that it'll be a childish, boring, simple-minded bomb and Cusack will have wasted his money.

I cannot imagine anyone going to see this movie. Those who like Limbaugh won't see it because it's undoubtedly going to be critical of Limbaugh and those who don't like Limbaugh simply won't go see it.

Actually, it sounds like Oscar bait, assuming they're going to make it a feature film and not a TV movie. Then it would be Emmy bait. Biopics are a surefire way to get a best actor award. He saw Julianne Moore getting an Emmy for a hitpiece biopic and figured he could do his own, getting praise for his performance via politics. Limbaugh is perhaps the oldest bete noir the Left has. He still shows up in fundraising letters. He makes an excellent Emmanuel Goldstein.

Apparently Hollywood doesn't spew enough liberal bullsh*t....

I hear it's timed for a Jan 2013 release so the Lefties can go to theater instead of having to watch Romney gets sworn in.

Hmmmm....let me guess....It will be 2 hours of slander calling Rush SIXHIRB...... Sexist, Intolerant, Xenophobic, Homophobic, Islamaphobic, Racist, and Bigoted. Of coarse since the leftists have been throwing those words around indiscriminately for the past 10 years the words impact mean nothing today. The Left poisons everything it touches.... government, education, movies, arts, TV, film...everything.

I hope if he does do this, it's to poke fun and make a point about the kinda stuff Rush Limbaugh gets ahead with, while making money off hate speech. It's that, or he really needs the money, but I would think it's the first thing I said.
