Shitty news for fans of Manchester band WU LYF — the band have apparently gone their separate ways, with singer Ellery James Roberts declaring the band “dead to me.” The band posted a new song called “TRIUMPH” — a song that appears to be a valedictory anthem, basically — to YouTube yesterday evening, along with comments from Roberts and other band members (exactly who wrote what is unclear.) Roberts elucidated on the band’s reasons for splitting in characteristically dramatic fashion: “The sincerity of [2011 debut album] Go Tell Fire was lost in the bull shit of maintaining face in the world we live. Clap your hands chimp everybody’s watching. A year spent losing faith; Innocence lost wide eyes see clear the dark.” Click through to hear “TRIUMPH,” and sigh deeply if you’re so inclined.
