Now here’s some excellent news for television and literary fans alike: Susanna Clarke’s excellent Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell , 2004’s wildly popular fantasy-cum-alternative history set during the Napoleonic Wars, is set to be adapted into a six-part miniseries for the BBC. Even better, the project will be directed by Toby Haynes, who directed our very favorite episode of Sherlock (season two finale “The Reichenbach Fall,” of course), plus a bunch of episodes of Doctor Who. It’s all very promising. If you have no idea what we’re talking about, consider this a notice to check this one out of your local library — we guarantee you won’t regret it. No word yet on casting choices or when we can expect to see our favorite rival magicians to appear (and then how long it’ll take for them to hop the pond), but color us excited in advance.
