Modern Paintball Battlefields Photographed With a Civil War-Era Camera

Over the past two years, Eric Omori has been roaming the paintball fields of Southern California, taking photographs. But this isn’t your average paintball photo series — Omori uses a wet plate camera, which gives his images a decidedly vintage look. “By utilizing this civil war era photographic process in relation to paintball, a simulated war game,” Omori explains, “I am attempting to draw comparisons to art history practices using a more contemporary subject matter.” The series, Weekend Warriors, which we spotted over at PetaPixel, leaves us thinking about the implications of war games and the way photography has influenced our view on the past — and perhaps the present. Click through to check out a few of our favorite shots from the series, and then be sure to head on over to Omori’s website for more.
