12 Essential Mobile Apps for New York Culture Lovers

MoMA

Lots of NY museums and galleries have their own apps, but I’ve never seen one that touches MoMA’s. It lets you browse current and upcoming exhibitions, view film schedules, search the museum’s entire collection by artist name or title, take audio tours in one of nine languages, buy tickets online, and more.

Great collection of apps. If I could make a few recommendations of some free apps:

Grade Spotter (free): lets you see NYC restaurant grades, and lets you search by name or location or by proximity.

Chinatown Chow Down NYC (free): *awesome* reviews w/ photos of virtually every restaurant in Chinatown. I bought it when it was $2, now it's free.

Happy Houred (free): Drink specials by bar, overlayed on map.

Goings On: The New Yorker (free)

Flavorpill (free)

NYC Museum Guide (free) NYC Arts (free): from nyc-arts.org

Thrillcall Live Music (free): flash offers for current shows. Requires creating a free acct w/ them.

CabSense NYC (free): uses taxi pick-up location history to show you which street corners in New York City are best for catching a taxi cab

Trees Near You (free): Currently unavailable from the App Store but my copy still works so....? On a map it overlays info on every tree planted on a sidewalk in the city, using census data.

I have had Leafsnap and Snapseed for years--they are pretty wonderful. What I need/fear is that coffee app. Holy shit.
