Quote of the Day: Who Does Stephen Colbert Owe an Apology to?
12:01 pm Thursday Sep 3, 2009 by Caroline Stanley

quote of the day

An interesting moment in a new Rolling Stone interview with Stephen Colbert. When he asked if he would apologize in character, Colbert gave this rather meta response, “It would be meant sincerely, though of course it would have to be done as a joke. So your question is very interesting to me. Can someone perceive something my character says sincerely? I don’t know the answer to that.”

Leave your guesses about who he offended in the comments. Could it have something to do with his now infamous appearance at the 2006 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner?

I think he was pretty angry about Hurricane Katrina at the time of the White House Correspondents' dinner. I doubt he regrets that speech. Jon Stewart can take care of himself if last week's Emmys are anything to go by. Barney Frank, maybe? Or possibly McCain? Frank and McCain are probably too obvious. He gives Frank pretty positive publicity as it is. It's probably someone less well known. Someone like the lady from Acorn who seemed less than amused with his interview questions – of course that was before the latest Acorn scandal.
