Yes, Sofia Coppola is unspeakably bad. And yes, Paramount and Coppola should’ve just ponied up the salary Robert Duvall was asking for. But The Godfather Part III is far better than its terrible reputation: Al Pacino’s aged, Lear-esque take on the quintessential antihero works, Diane Keaton’s venomous playing of once-sweet Kay is startlingly effective, and the young guard (particularly Andy Garcia and Joe Mantegna) are frequently electrifying.
