Modern-Day Photo Recreations of Marc Chagall Paintings Illuminate the Artists’s Enduring Influence

Marc Chagall was an early modernist who dabbled in a variety of artistic forms, creating for himself a lasting legacy as a preeminent Russian artist. It makes sense, then, that artist Olga Ush, herself a multi-disciplinarian, would pay homage to some of Chagall’s famous works with digitally manipulated photography. Her series Chagall Today (spotted via Faith is Torment) recreates those iconic paintings in modern-day scenes. Chagall’s works “have a specific meaning for every Russian,” Ush explains, with “each painting [containing] a great deal of real Russian spirit, even those which were done in France.” Take a look at Chagall’s work and Ush’s recreations after the jump.
