MusicBritney Spears Commentary Metallica the Roots Tom Morello Trent Reznor
Sounds Like Interrogation: Top 10 Torture Songs
5:33 pm Monday Oct 26, 2009 by John Steele

Last week Tom Morello, formerly of Rage Against the Machine, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails joined Pearl Jam, the Roots, R.E.M., and others in support of a new campaign pressuring US politicians to close the Guantánamo Bay. Why are so many musicians joining the movement? According to previously declassified reports, interrogators have used Metallica, Britney Spears, and even Sesame Street to torture detainees in the past. Many artists are outraged that their music may have been used without their consent, and want the practice stopped immediately.

While the Roots may not sound like noise pollution to you, Britney may be another story. In the interest of open debate, please tell us in the comments section below whose music could be used to torture you. Maybe Slayer hurts your emotional soul. Maybe club rap makes you want to punch Lil’ John right in the pimp cup. Tell us all about it below.

To get you started, here’s our list:

1. Britney Spears: “Gimme More”

2. Ying Yang Twins: “Hanh!”

3. Nickelback: “Photograph”

4. Creed: “With Arms Wide Open”

5. Celine Dion: “The Power of Love”

6. The Brady Bunch: “It’s A Sunshine Day”

7. Baha Men: “Who Let The Dogs Out”

8. Hanson: “Mmm Bop”

9. Carousel Original Broadway Cast: “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over”

10. Pussycat Dolls: “Hot Stuff (Want You Back)”

give me a break – “out raged”???? You’re telling me a band like Metallica fronted by James Hetfield who has openly admitted that he has been plagued by homicidal thoughts gives a rat’s a** that his nmusic has been used to torture a prisoner???

And as for the rest of the musicians, what a load of crap. They all jumped into this concert because they haven’t had a hit or a sign of life in a long time due to the fact that today’s music is overrun by pop that is plagued with marketing b.s.

This is the most self-important stunt I have ever seen from bands I respect.

And not that I feel that 100% of the detainees in GITMO are guilty, but for the ones that are, I’m sure THEY didn’t use music to attack their victims, so try to have some perspective on this. Maybe if these rich musicians were to invest their time and money into supporting the liberation of the opressed people of Cuba – I can assure you that they have endured even worse atrocities than the prisoners at GITMO. But why go looking their if you’re a whinny affluent musician with no real grip on reality?
