Here in Canada, the Bata Shoe Museum is well known.

London (England) has a bunch of quirky museums that I like including:

Sir John Soane House Museum (crazy 18th century collection of bric-a-brac),
Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (just across from the Soane House, it is a cool 18th century collection of medical specimens), Geffrye Museum and almshouse, Freud Museum, and the list could go on.

The Enema Museum in Lynchburg, Virginia will stick with you although I suspect the Enema Monument in Stavropol Russia is more memorable. See pictures via Google for that one! And both Texas and Kansas have Barbed Wire Museums that seem to fit the bill of oddness for me.

I agree with the above comment that The Museum of Jurassic Technology should top the list. However I disagree about the book. I think the experience is much richer if you, like I on my first visit, have no idea what to expect and are left to your own musings to figure out what to make of the place.

Read the book after.

My .02. Great list!

You cannot omit The Museum of Jurassic Technology from this list. It is intelligent, fascinating and completely mystifying. It will (or should) change your experience of every other museum.
