Open Caption: Jean Nouvel in Abu Dhabi
3:34 pm Tuesday Nov 17, 2009 by Caroline Stanley

According to the press release that accompanied this image, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan was inspecting a prototype of the dome for the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which is expected to open in 2013. Jean Nouvel, Pritzker Prize-winning architect for the project, smiles to his left. Give us your best caption. Our favorite response will win a copy of Photo:Box, a collection of 250 photographs by 200 of the world’s most prominent photographers.

Suggested caption for this image? How about…

“It looks great, Jean! With such a new attraction for Abu Dhabi, nobody will remember our appalling human rights record, nor the fact that Human Rights Watch has accused our nation of trafficking men, women, and children from South and East Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East for sexual and other forms of exploitation.”

“And this, Sheikh, is the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s kitchen. I like to call it the Nouvel Cuisine…”

Rumors confirm: Rich oil plutocrats have secretly frozen Lex Luthor’s and Osama Bin Laden’s heads in hopes of cloning a new unstoppable supervillian.

A Nouvel idea for the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

The Louvre is to include busts of Dr. Evil and the Sheikh Sultan in a domed hall of mirrors meant to discombobulate the senses. Austin Powers and Yasser Arafat are behind camera, left.

“Why yes Sheikh, this is, of course, the saucer in 1/4000th scale, if you want to go to Alpha Centauri with all of your cars, it’s gonna have to be big”

“If this project gets approved I’m going to be Nouvel riche!”
