Modest Mouse’s New Video Is a Surrealist Spin on ‘Game of Thrones’

Modest Mouse just shared a deranged music video for “The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box,” from their Strangers to Ourselves album — released earlier this year via Epic. Surrounded by Aurora-filled skies and remnants of a Game of Thrones-esque battle scene, lead singer Isaac Brock sports an unlit torch in place of a mic as he sings with trademark jerkiness. In this short-lived four-minute world, crowns are made of keys, and royal staffs are made of light bulbs. The video vibrates in montage snippets and musical syncopation, as Brock — who assumes a tyrannical stance — becomes less frightening and more charmingly comical with each shot of his metallic gold leggings. It seems that the bloody battle near the end spins off the Game of Thrones combat between the Red Viper and the Mountain from last season. Whether or not you’re enough of a GoT fan to notice the reference, the video is, on its own, completely entertaining and worth a watch:
