Funny, everyone's fussing about product placement. I'm more perplexed by the gratuitous displays of Viggo Mortensen's behind. Guess its a cultural thing but wouldn't it make more sense to have him keep his trunks on when swimming with the boy?

I found this page because I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the product placement of coca-cola. Methinks CC doth protest too much and I have to say that although I take what Hillcoat says at face value, it does not mean it is not good for the CC brand. There have been several post-apocalyptic movies where a major brand appears -- I think the message is "when everything else has gone, Brand endures..." I recall the dreadful Memoirs of a Survivor, with Julie Christie, in which Armageddon blasted the UK to bits, all apart from hoardings advertising Golden Virginia (rolling tobacco).

"Hillcoat bridles a bit at the mention of the trailer for The Road, which seems to depict a film quite different from the one he made. As Hillcoat explains, 'None of that stock [disaster] footage was ever in the film or ever even contemplated. I understood why they did it. They were trying to give it a context to people who had never read the book.'"

Oh THANK GOD. The 2012-ization of Cormac McCarthy was atrocious.
