Legendary actor Max von Sydow will join the cast of Game of Thrones in its upcoming sixth season, taking over the role of the Three-Eyed Raven in the popular HBO fantasy series.

The Swedish-French actor, best known for his roles in The Seventh Seal, The Exorcist, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Minority Report, will assume the Raven role from Struan Rodger, who originated it in GoT’s fourth season. Deadwood star Ian McShane will also join the show this year, in an as-yet-undisclosed role. According to Entertainment Weekly, neither actor will have much in the way of screen time this season, though “both roles are crucial in their own way.”

The 86-year-old von Sydow’s filmography includes Through a Glass Darkly, The Greatest Story Ever Told (as Jesus), Three Days of the Condor, Flash Gordon, Pelle the Conqueror, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (he was nominated for Oscars for the last two). He will also appear in the next Star Wars movie.
