Shondaland Continues Its Expansion with Army Medical Drama

Just in time for the Primetime Holy Trinity’s return to ABC tonight, the network has announced yet another series from power-producer Shonda Rhimes.

The woman behind Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder (not to mention Private Practice and the yet-to-premiere The Catch) will co-executive produce an untitled Army medical drama for the network. Set in a Baghdad U.S. base camp in 2004, the series will center on a Medevac unit, applying the tried-and-true Grey’s formula of a medical workplace soap to a brand-new location.

In fact, former Grey’s writer-producer Zoanne Clack will helm the show as writer and co-executive producer. Longtime Shondaland producer Betsy Beers will serve as the third EP, bringing yet another female-helmed project to the airwaves. There’s no casting news as of yet, but this is a Rhimes show we’re talking about, so the leads are bound to be another welcome reprieve from the mostly-white, mostly-male television landscape.
