The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame shortlist will never satisfy everyone, but the 2016 list of fifteen potential inductees includes an eclectic mix of genres and first-time nominees.

Janet Jackson, who is enjoying a welcomed comeback in 2015 after a seven year hiatus, is also enjoying her first nomination. The Cars, Cheap Trick, Chicago, The J.B.’s, Chaka Khan, Los Lobos, and Steve Miller are all also under consideration for the first time.

On the other hand, disco-funk band Chic is nominated for a record tenth time. Other returning acts on the ballot include N.W.A., which likely received extra publicity and support after the success of F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton .

Eligibility is limited to artists or bands that have released their first single or album prior to 1990. Similar to last year, fans will be able to vote on which acts they feel should be inducted, and their votes will be factored into the final decision.

The class of 2016 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be announced in December, and the induction ceremony will take place in New York next April. The full list can be viewed on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame website.
