Chris Rock Is Your Official 2016 Oscar Host

Variety reported the rumors yesterday, and now it’s confirmed: Chris Rock will host the 2016 Academy Awards ceremony.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued a press release this morning, locking in the comedian a full four months ahead of the show, which will broadcast on Sunday, February 28th via ABC.

This will be Rock’s second time as host; his first time at the podium was over a decade ago, in 2005. The news comes as a welcome surprise to comedy fans after last year’s indifferently received performance from Neil Patrick Harris. Flavorwire’s still abstaining from actual awards speculation until Thanksgiving, but we feel comfortable in going out on a limb and predicting that Rock’s performance will have significantly more edge to it.
