Chromatics Just Wanna Have Fun with Their Cyndi Lauper Covers

While fans continue to wait for Dear Tommy, Chromatics’ follow-up to 2012’s Kill For Love, the band has released two covers of Cyndi Lauper’s 1983 hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

The first, “Girls Just Wanna Have Some,” is a chill, laid-back version perfect for this Indian summer; the second, dubbed “Girls Just Wanna Have Dub,” removes the percussion, making the already hazy cover even hazier.

The two covers will be packaged with two other versions, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Drums,” as well as their corresponding instrumentals, and will be available tomorrow. The band’s play with and isolation of instrumental elements feels like a continuation of the “drum-less” re-release of Kill For Love. Similarly, the different versions are differentiated by their video; though the same hallucinatory visual is used for both, the “dub” version is filtered through a sea-green lens.

The band had previously recorded a different cover of the song, which was commissioned by Spanish clothing company, Mango, and featured in a television spot for their Fall/Winter 2015 line with supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne.
