The newly formed Amazon Studios has acquired Nicolas Winding Refn’s female-led horror film The Neon Demon, which will be released in theaters next summer. According to a press release, the film centers on “an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will go to any lengths to get what she has.” Elle Fanning (pictured), Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, and Bela Heathcoat are set to star.

Refn is co-writing the film with Mary Laws. Speaking of the origins of the movie, Refn said: “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making Drive and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of The Neon Demon.”

Composer Cliff Martinez will once again collaborate with Refn on the movie, as well as editor Matthew Newman and cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd.
