Christopher Nolan a Sure Thing for Batman 3?

The latest “Batman 3” rumor floating around the Internet is the news that Christopher Nolan has officially signed on for the third film and is plugging away on the script, while Rachel Weisz, who broke our heart in The Constant Gardener, is in talks to take on the coveted role of Catwoman. That’s a far cry from previous murmurs of Cher or Angelina Jolie, but in a good way.

E!’s Ted Casablancas has some additional catty scoop to dish out: “Christian Bale will obviously rejoin his director pal, and we’re very pleased to report that he’ll be playing a ‘sexier’ Bruce Wayne. This is heaven-sent news, as, let’s face it, Bale couldn’t have looked any more constipated in that last flick.” Ha.

We’re still hoping that Nolan listens to our mutual friend Tim Sale’s advice and follows the story line of Dark Victory; this origin tale for Robin is Jeph Loeb’s comic book sequel to The Long Halloween, the fictional work that the The Dark Knight was largely based on. It worked for Nolan the first time, and we think it’s time the world had someone other than Chris O’Donnell in tights dancing around in their heads.

While there’s a Catwoman character in this tale, we’d be more interested in seeing Weisz play the female District Attorney who replaces Harvey Dent. We’d also recommend he drop any on screen appearances of the Joker (what’s the point?) and focus instead on the other supervillains in Dark Victory — Solomon Grundy, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, or Penguin. Thoughts?
