‘The Good Wife’ Has Nine Episodes Left

The current season of The Good Wife will also be the last, CBS announced Sunday. The network broke the news to fans with a short teaser ad Sunday Night during Super Bowl 50. According to the ad, the second half of the season will last nine episodes

The announcement comes after months of rumors about whether or not the show would continue following the departure of showrunners Robert and Michelle King. According to Deadline, the Kings confirmed last month they would leave the show at the end of the season, following the conclusion of their planned seven season arc. The final episodes will not need to be rewritten to tie up the narrative.

Despite posturing from CBS suggesting the series might be renewed, pending contract renegotiations for stars Julianna Margulies and Alan Cumming had been taken as a sign the series would not return next Fall.

“I’m unemployed come April, and I think you haven’t seen me in a while,” Margulies recently joked at The Artios Awards’ tribute to the Kings, “at least not in person, so I thought I should show up.”

The seventh season of The Good Wife returns Sunday, February 14.
